Claus Hegewald

Claus Hegewald is a Senior Expert at IMIG, specialising in the optimisation of injection-moulded parts and their associated tooling. He supports customers in improving product design and tooling performance to increase quality, efficiency, and process stability.

His expertise encompasses interior and exterior components for the automotive industry, with in-depth know-how in design optimisation, material behavior, and the manufacturability of injection-molded parts. He works exclusively in the automotive industry, supporting manufacturers and suppliers in optimising injection-molded parts, tools, and processes. His experience also includes all plastic welding techniques, laminations, and painting processes for both interior and exterior applications .

Prior to joining IMIG, Claus Hegewald worked in concept development, product realisation, and quality assurance for leading automotive manufacturers. He was responsible for the development of the door panels for the Golf 6 (two- and four-door models) from design to series production, as well as the instrument panel for the Mercedes S-Class from prototype to production readiness. He also led the conception and development of the door panels for the BMW Z4 and the Toyota Supra. Furthermore, he was involved in quality management during the series production launch of the center console for the BMW 5 Series and the bumper for the Golf R.

At IMIG, he led the optimisation of ten injection molds, including four complex two- and three-component molds, for the production of taillights for a premium vehicle. Through the targeted adjustment of molds and injection parameters, scrap was significantly reduced and process stability was sustainably improved.
