Alexander Kimber

Senior Expert Manufacturing Consultant

Alexander Kimber is a Senior Expert Manufacturing Consultant at IMIG, focused on solving complex production challenges through data-driven analysis and collaborative problem-solving. He works closely with plant leadership to shape long-term manufacturing improvement strategies that enhance multi-customer delivery performance and unlock opportunities for innovation funding.

Alexander helps manufacturers navigate complexity with clarity and precision. Combining technical depth with practical execution, he delivers streamlined operations, efficient product launches, and lasting performance gains. From advancing automation to reshaping factory layouts and securing innovation funding, his work brings direction to teams and measurable impact to leadership.

He works primarily across manufacturing, defence, and industrial sectors, with a strong focus on operations, leadership alignment, and R&D. His experience spans both high-volume and high-complexity environments, including the automotive industry.

Before joining IMIG, Alexander delivered significant operational improvements across complex manufacturing environments. His work on a make-versus-buy strategy helped a client secure executive approval for a £7 million capital investment and commit to a 10-year production programme. At another site, he restructured manufacturing capacity planning by modelling future-state scenarios across product mix, shift patterns, and resource constraints, enabling a scalable operating model that delivered a 30% increase in output. He also modernised an established manufacturer by designing and developing automation and digital solutions that enhanced efficiency while preserving the company’s high quality standards. He was also the  Engineering Project Manager at Brompton Bicycle Ltd, where he led automation and digitalisation initiatives within the manufacturing engineering team, overseeing governance and reporting directly to the executive team on transformation progress. Before that, he served as Programme Lead for Factory Transformation at a defence company, managing a portfolio of part transfer projects focused on capability acquisition, layout optimisation, and programme delivery. Across both roles, he built cross-functional expertise in operations and developed a strong working knowledge of intellectual property law, particularly in innovation-led environments.

At IMIG, Alexander has worked closely with clients to stabilise supply performance and drive strategic improvement. He led the turnaround of a critical supplier facing delivery issues, using root cause analysis to shape a recovery plan that restored trust and reliability. In another engagement, he assessed a Tier 1 supplier across all business functions, guiding a collaborative process to prioritise improvements with direct customer impact. He also helps clients unlock innovation funding, designing grant bids that support automation investments aimed at improving resource and energy efficiency.

Alexander holds an MEng (Hons) in Aeronautical and Aerospace Engineering from the University of Bristol and completed the Business Sustainability Management programme at the University of Cambridge. He is certified in project management by APM and trained in performance coaching through the EMCC.
